Carlos Villanueva is a Four Inning PitcherIt seems he is better suited for the bullpen. However Manny Parra is about a 4 inning pitcher too. Dave Bush usually can keep his pitch count under control but he gets hammered in the 5th, 6th, or 7th innings. Not really sure what the alternatives are right now. Jeff Weaver would be one, as he is a established big league pitcher that has shown glimpses of being decent. (Even though I really can't stand the guy, but desperate times call for desperate measures) I said it at the time that I thought it was a mistake to release Claudio Vargas. Not that he would be a savior, but he would be an option to at least get 5 or 6 decent innings out of. I hate to say this, but what most of us thought was a strength at the beginning of the year is turning out to be a huge weakness. |

Carlos Villanueva is a Four Inning PitcherAnd that is the reason he should either be in AAA getting stretched out, or he should be the long relief guy in the pen. |

Carlos Villanueva is a Four Inning PitcherVillanueva has presented an interesting situation. IMO, he's too good for long relief. But clearly he's just not working out as a starter. Personally I am going to give him a couple more chances before I hit the panic button (if we move Villanueva, we'd have to move Parra too, he's doing just as poorly). Maybe a few starts in Nashville will straighten him out as it did last year. Who knows. But he needs to start picking it up now, or else he is going to lose his spot in the rotation. |

Carlos Villanueva is a Four Inning PitcherThat's exactly how I feel, Villanueva is too good for relief and as a starter you get more innings out of him, but he's just not ready yet to go deep into games. And you mention Parra, he's even worse. His longest start of the year is 5.1 innings so you know everytime his spot in the rotation comes up you need at least 4 innings from your bullpen |
