Weeks has played 65 games since returning from Triple A Nashville on August 10th, 2007. If you project the numbers he's put up since then over 162 games here is what you get for a full season:

Don't be fooled by a batting averageOBA and OPS are the most important stats a hitter possesses by far. For instance take another Brewer Ryan Braun, who can hit, but is only hitting .247. He complete inability or unwillingness to take a walk means his OBA is a mere .270 and I think that is more detremental to the team than Rickie Weeks' batting average. As long as you are getting on base, regardless of your batting average, you are helping your team on the offensive end. Runners on base, causes defenses to realign their positioning thus creating extra holes in the field for the hitter to find. Another thing I look for (and it hasn't really been quantified) is quality outs. For instance, if you have a runner on 2nd, does he make it to 3rd in your at bat despite you making an out. That is why I believe strikeouts kill teams and kill rallies because there is no way to advance a runner on a strikeout. |
